Forum Information and Policies
The American Psychiatric Association welcomes your participation in the new APA Psychotherapy Rounds Online listserv forums. In order to keep these forums enjoyable and interesting for all participants, APA asks that you follow these policies. These policies are only a minimum; in addition to complying with these policies, APA asks that you also exercise good judgment and generally be considerate toward fellow users. By participating in the APA Grand Rounds Online, you are consenting to these policies.
Message Tone and Size: Electronic mail (e-mail) messages can be informal, but thought should be given before you send them. Do not send a message until you have taken time to review its contents and header. Make sure your message is correctly addressed, is free of typos, and really says what you mean. Try to be both clear and concise. Content should be reviewed for grammar, spelling, and composition before posting.
Each message posted to the forum will be limited in size to approximately 25 lines of 10-point type or 2000 character spaces. When replying to a message, only quote the portions that are absolutely necessary to help the reader understand your point, and delete the rest. The forums are for text only. Use of graphics and audio is not appropriate; nor should attachments be included with postings.
Be careful to send listserv commands to the right e-mail address (majordomo@lists2.psych.org). Do NOT post subscribe/unsubscribe/digest requests to the forum. If you ask a QUESTION on the forum and participants respond directly to you, not to the forum, please provide a SUMMARY post to share what you have learned with other participants. (For more information about the content that should not be posted to the forums, please review the security and confidentiality statement that follows.)
Website and Listserv Privacy, Security, and Confidentiality: The APA takes extensive measures to ensure the safety and security of its Website servers and to guard against divulging private information. However, APA believes participants should be made aware of the following policies and have the right to opt out of the program at any time.
Privacy: Your name and e-mail address will be provided to all listserv participants any time you post a message to the forum. E-mail information, personal information about participant access and navigation, and information volunteered by participants, such as evaluation information and site registration information, may be used by APA to improve the site but will not be shared with or sold to other organizations for commercial purposes.
The APA may use the e-mail addresses voluntarily provided by participants to notify them about updates, products, services, activities, or upcoming events sponsored by the APA.
At times, APA uses cookies on its site. A cookie is a piece of data stored on the participant's computer hard drive containing information about the participant. Usage of a cookie is in no way linked to any personally identifiable information while on the site. Once the participant closes his or her browser, the cookie simply terminates. For instance, by setting a cookie on the site, a participant would not have to log in a password more than once, thereby saving time while on APA's site. If a participant rejects the cookie, he or she may still use the site. The only drawback in deleting the cookie is that the participant will have limited functionality while on the site. Cookies can also enable APA to track and target the interests of participants to enhance the experience on the APA Psychotherapy Rounds Online site.
Security and Confidentiality: The purpose of the APA Psychotherapy Rounds Online is education by APA members for APA members. The listserv forums are not intended as a consultation service. Although the listserv is restricted to APA members, there are no special security features applied to the electronic transfer of information on these forums. Therefore, APA recommends that participants not reveal confidential communications or information about a patient through the forums, and adhere to privacy and confidentiality principles regarding legally and ethically sharing important information about medical conditions of individual patients to third parties directly. For more information about patient confidentiality, read the APA Opinions of the Ethics Committee on The Principles of Medical Ethics with Annotations Especially Applicable to Psychiatry (2001 Edition).
