Office-Based Treatment of Opioid Dependence
The Drug Addiction Treatment Act of 2000 requires physicians to complete 8 hours of specialized training in order to prescribe buprenorphine for the treatment of opioid dependence. Organizations authorized by the Federal government to provide training are the American Psychiatric Association, the American Academy of Addiction Psychiatry, the American Osteopathic Academy of Addiction Medicine, and the American Society of Addiction Medicine.
