APA to Hold Webinar on Health Insurance Exchanges

Fri February 01, 2013

(Arlington, VA) - On Tuesday, February 12th, staff from the APA’s Division of Advocacy will be presenting a webinar on health insurance exchanges.  This webinar is open to all district branch executives and APA members. The Affordable Care Act (ACA) requires states’ health care exchanges to be completed by October 2013 and serving consumers by January 2014. This webinar will serve as a primer to better understanding state health insurance exchanges, covering the formation of health insurance exchanges, key actors and stakeholders, coverage issues, essential health benefits, and the interactions among federal and state mental health parity laws and qualified health plans to be sold on states’ health insurance exchanges.

To accommodate district branch executives and members on the east and west coasts, this primer webinar is scheduled for Tuesday, February 12, 2013 from 12:00pm-1:30 pm Eastern Time and from 3:00-4:30 pm Eastern Time.  Please send any questions you may have about EHB benchmark plans and health care exchanges to Julie A. Clements, J.D., the APA’s Deputy Director of Regulatory Affairs, at jclements@psych.org by February 7, 2013, and we’ll try to address your questions during the webinar.

The “APA Primer on Health Insurance Exchanges” will be the first of several APA Division of Advocacy webinars to address health reform’s implications for psychiatrists and mental health patients.  Details will be forthcoming about a separate webinar in mid-March which will address the ACA’s Medicaid expansion and how the federal mental health parity law applies to various types of Medicaid health plans.

For registration, please email the Department of Government Relations at advocacy@psych.org. Please include your member number in the email so we can verify your APA membership status.
