Lessons Learned from Addiction Psychiatry: The Motivational Interviewing Approach to Change

Petros Levounis, M.D., M.A., Associate Clinical Professor of Psychiatry, Columbia University
Director, The Addiction Institute of New York
Chief, Division of Addiction Psychiatry
St. Luke’s and Roosevelt Hospitals
New York, NY

The focus of this webinar is substance use disorders and addiction.  It will equip participants with a basic understanding of the motivational interviewing approach to changing behavior.  The presentation will also provide an understanding of motivational interviewing the clinicians can flexibly apply to address patients’ issues of motivation and change even beyond substance abuse.

Motivational Interviewing is, arguably, an essential skill for helping patients to change and should be part of the armamentarium of every clinician.
